KELSIE + PAT
BLACK BALSAM KNOB // ASHEVILLE, NC

Hurricane Florence was a force to be reckoned with. She threatened the coast with 35 inches of rain and left the rest of the state reeling from the fall-off. Kelsie and Pat had planned their elopement on the day she was due to make landfall. We all re-arranged our plans. Their families, friends, and officiant ultimately decided it was safer to stay hundreds of miles away instead of attempting to fly into the eye of the storm. By some miracle, we were able to still have the wedding with far less people and a few days earlier than planned.

In the midst of the impending chaos, the morning of their wedding was contrastingly peaceful. The fog settled in the valleys, catching all colors of the rainbow from the rising sun. The trails were empty. The only sound was the wind carrying the light fog over the mountaintops. We all took in the most beautiful sunrise from the peak, and then we hiked down to the forest to meet their officiant to exchange vows. The ceremony felt like an exhale. To finally be pronounced “married” was a special moment to soak in after the stress from the approaching storm.
