GRANDPA’S CABIN /// MICHIGAN

Over the Christmas holiday, my family took a quick trip up to my Grandpa’s fishing cabin.  He was one of the founding members and has been coming here for over 50 years.  I, however, haven’t been to the cabin since I was young.  All I remember is not having cable and the fisherman showing me what fish eggs looked like.

This trip was much different…in a good way.

Now arriving as a photographer, I was enamored with the rustic details…the old telephone, the fish lights + posters, the wood burning fireplace.  The place is so peaceful with no modern distractions (including lack of cell phone service).  The snow had freshly fallen, and the only sound you could hear was the riving rushing past the house.

I love that my grandfather is almost 91, and he can keep up with us hiking.  He still reads books about challenging your brain and kicks our butts at cribbage every time we play.  I know he won’t always be around, but I love having memories like these to hold on to.
