Rachel and John’s wedding at The Rickhouse in Durham was filled with many emotions. Rachel had lost her mother a few years prior, and it was evident that the weight of that loss was carried by most of their friends and family. Her “aunts” surrounded her after she put on her dress. They hugged her, told her how proud of her they were, and wiped away tears while reminiscing about her mother. It was beautiful to see their community surround her the entire wedding day.
They were gifted with a gorgeous November day. Their wedding party wandered around downtown Durham after their emotional first look. John will be the first person to tell you that crying runs in the family. A crazy moment occurred when I asked R+J to cross the street while I photographed them from the rooftop. However, as they were making their way up the sidewalk, a car accident happened RIGHT in the place that I had planned for the photo. I don’t know if the driver was distracted by the beautiful couple on the sidewalk, but it was a bizarre happening!
Their ceremony was filled with joy and many happy tears. Their vows were original and heartfelt. After exchanging vows, the cocktail hour began, which eventually led to a packed dance floor. Rachel and John purchased glow wands for their exit, but they broke them out so earlier so that their guests could play with them while they danced. It was a big hit.
