THE SCHULTZES /// CHARLOTTE, NC

Cheyenne was one of the first people I met when we moved to Charlotte about four years ago.  I remember getting together at Starbucks (her favorite) with baby Boone in tow.  I was incredibly nervous because The Schultzes have an outstanding reputation in the photography community.  In fact, I was shocked she agreed to grab coffee with me!  However, she was (and still is) a breath of fresh air, honest and kind…someone who genuinely cares about the people she photographs and interacts with.  I truly believe that God brought her into my life that day, and I’m so thankful to have her as a dear friend to this day.

I was honored when she asked me to step into their home and capture a few hours of real life.  Their sweet dog, Frank, has been on the decline, and she was hoping for a way to remember + celebrate their time with him.  Anyone who knows The Schultzes is aware that they have a soft spot for animals, always rescuing strays and finding homes for them.  Frank was an exception.  When they picked him up off the street, he fit right in with their family.  Even with a toddler and two other dogs at the time, they knew he had to stay.  From my observation, Frank is the protector and the silent one.  He quietly sits in the corner or by the door, constantly watching to make sure everyone is OK.  He loves to be scratched, hugged, and loved.

I’ve been loving working with families this year, solely focusing on “real life” stories.  There are so many sweet moments and personalities that shine through when I get to spend more than an hour with a family and in their personal space.  This particular morning they snuggled in bed, made Snoopy pancakes, cuddled with the dogs, read stories, planted herbs, and went out for cookies.

Here are a few of my favorites of these amazing friends of mine…

  4. I don’t even know what to say, Megan. To say that your words and these images are a gift…that’s not even coming close to express what these mean to me. You, my friend, have SUCh a talent. I will treasure these pictures for the rest of my life. I could never thank you enough.

    * The two pictures of Frank wagging his tail….those will promptly go up on a wall in our home so we can remember him always after he isn’t with us anymore. They are beautiful images, but more so, they are so HIM….that quiet wag. And your description of him couldn’t be more on point. :)

Wow these are SO special. You captured such beautiful and raw moments that I am sure they will treasure forever. There are so many times that I’m doing stuff with my family and wish I had a photographer present. I totally teared up too…. these are the best kind of photos I think any family (especially a mom speaking for myself) could ask for. Your work is so inspiring and you truly have an amazing gift and talent. Way to go :)
