For the hundreds of times that I’ve traversed the Blue Ridge Parkway, I’ve seen many different animals. Never a peacock. Until this day.
Early spring in Asheville can be tricky to plan for an engagement session because the weather can fluctuate between 40º and 70º. Thankfully, this was one of those days that was pleasant. We had the best time exploring this trail with all of the new spring growth and punchy greens. On our way down the trail, we saw a peacock. We were flabbergasted.
I’ve seen bear scat on this trail many different times, so I was the most surprised that the bird had evaded predators up to this point. Obviously, peacocks are not native to WNC. The news eventually covered the story, and it was assumed that the bird had escaped from its owner.
We left with not only a lovely day on the parkway but also a great story.
